I'm pretty childish when it comes to my birthday, I love it because it's MY day. Facebook has enhanced it in recent years because the Facebook app on my phone chimes at regular intervals as friends from all over the world, in different time zones send me their wishes. Jon and Linda joined us with their motorhome this year and I shared my favourite cycle route with them. The National Cycle Network passes through the village. Route number 13 joins no. 1 and this enabled us to get to great Ryburgh, near Fakenham. When we arrived in the village we needed fortification and were delighted to stumble across the village shop. When the original business faced closure a few years back, some members of the local community pooled their resources and formed a co-operative. The result is grocery shop, post office, dry cleaning agency, gift shop, internet cafe and more, all wrapped up together in a delicious heart warming bundle. I was revived with cider, good cheer and Pringles, whilst my companions tucked into tea, coffee, snacks, and sandwiches served at the single table inside.
Unfortunately, on the way back we discovered that the Brisley Bell had closed down, another favoured refreshment stop. But after all this activity we fortified ourselves with a delicious curry at the new Indian restaurant in Dereham.
