Before Mike left we took delivery of a new piece of equipment. It's a little modem called a Fonera . It attaches to the router indoors and as we've joined the scheme we get access to Wifi from Fon hotspots throughout Europe. I will be singing off the rooftops with this amazing way to keep in touch once I can safely say it's up and running. It works from the flat, but will it work for Mike? Only time will tell, and we do know what his techno skills amount to.
After the big wave off yesterday, Mike arrived in Dover unscathed and checked in at P & O. They handed him his boarding pass, nothing untoward there. Then they congratulated Mike and gave him a £20 voucher to be spent on board. They clearly know how to win him over, and he was so excited, as soon as he switched off the engine he rang to tell me his good fortune. Then he went on to say that I wouldn't be receiving any text messages, because....
His mobile phone language is 'accidentally' set to Turkish. How? Why? Don't ask me, but on the back of this and speaking from experience, I'm not sure how well Fon hotspots are going to work out for him.
He's now in France, near the Belgian border, repacking the van. He may not be a techno man, but he does enjoy a spot of reorganisation, just to make sure the tins of baked beans are all facing forward.
More next week where I will share Mike's whim based wanderings with you.
Have a good one,
Ali and Mike
