When we got back from our trip of a lifetime through the Panama Canal, Mike and I rejoined the van in Portugal. Not only was it left in very safe hands outside our friends' house, but Mario had even cleaned it for us. A chore that Mike doesn't get round to very often. We took Mario and Dennis out for a thank you meal to our favourite restaurant in the Albufeira area-The Antiga Taberna in Ferreiras. On the menu is a selection of fresh home made dishes from Portugal and Italy. The owner is from Rome and his wife Portuguese and they definitely know what they are doing in the kitchen. If you're in the area and fancy paying the sort of prices that the locals do, give them a try.

The rest of February was spent fidgeting around the Algarve. The weather was a bit changeable and as Mike is allergic to rain this made the days seem longer for him. We spent time in Silves, Albufeira, Paderne, Manta Rota, and Vila Real de San Antonio. In a previous blog post I pondered on how the village of Purgatorio got its name and we drove through it to get to Paderne. Who else has visited purgatory?
